“I see these vouchers as investing in her future – like saving money for her education,” says Sarah Burge, the UK’s self-proclaimed “Human Barbie” who has allegedly spent $1 million on plastic surgery for herself. As reported by CBS News, Burge not only gave her 7-year old daughter, Poppy, a voucher for breast augmentation for the child’s recent birthday, she also presented Poppy with a gift certificate for liposuction as part of her Christmas gift. According to the article, Burge has also been quoted saying, “Some people think it’s controversial and I get angry when strangers say I’m a bad mother because I don’t think there’s any harm in giving her this gift.”

This story might make one think: Is there such a thing as too young for plastic surgery planning? And, is this woman passing on the problem of cosmetic surgery addiction to her daughter? It seems to be one thing for a girl to be fascinated with the beauty of her mother and to want to be like mom when she grows up. Yet, this news article appears to share the story of a possible obsessive relationship between mother, daughter, and plastic surgery.

Please note: Plastic surgery is intended for mature, physically and psychologically healthy individuals who have made a personal decision to enhance a part of their body based on their own personal, individual reasons. Plastic surgery does not guarantee perfect results and may or may not affect how a person feels about him or herself. A cosmetic enhancement can truly provide amazing results for someone choosing it for the right reasons. It’s too difficult to know exactly why and how Poppy desires plastic surgery to such a degree, she was quoted in the CBS News article as saying (her response to receiving lavish gifts): “I wanted a new computer, a holiday and a voucher for surgery. When I got it all, it was a dream come true. All my friends were jealous. I can’t wait to be like Mummy with big boobs. They’re pretty.” The controversy of this article is said to be catching the attention of psychological experts, who fear that Poppy may face difficulties in her adult life as a result of her upbringing.

Dr. Wilcox, a qualified Plano and Dallas liposuction expert, encourages prospective patients to have realistic goals and expectations regarding plastic surgery.
Not long ago, however, having a “big butt” was not only embarrassing for a woman, just the thought of having a big butt was upsetting. These days, the trend among body-conscious women is not about the waif look. Rather, it’s all about showing off your best assets. And more and more of those who do not naturally have a defined, voluptuous derriere, similar to the likes of the popular Kardashian sisters or singer Beyoncé (stars that many women these days wish to emulate in shape and style), can turn to cosmetic surgery for help.

At the practice of Dr. Wilcox, a Plano and Dallas Brazilian butt lift specialist, butt enhancement via the fat transfer method continues to be a top requested procedure. Noticing the general increase in patients’ interest in butt enhancement, he has helped many women gain their desired contour via the fat grafting buttocks augmentation technique for natural-looking curves.

At Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center of Texas, Dr. Wilcox can skillfully reshape an individual’s buttocks into a more aesthetically pleasing, fuller appearance. Those who qualify as ideal candidates for this method must have a substantial amount of fat in another part of the body, such as the abdomen, flanks, hips, back, thighs, or arms. Dr. Wilcox will gently extract excess fat from one, or more, of these areas using liposuction, before it is purified and prepared for reinsertion into the buttocks. Through two tiny incisions in predetermined areas, the fat will be injected and distributed in an internal web pattern.

Dr. Wilcox will help decide if butt enlargement surgery will provide you with your desired results. If you are committed to a focused fitness regimen, but not reaching your goals with this natural method alone, now may be a great time to contact Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center of Texas and schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Wilcox.

Currently, the French government is deciding whether to recommend removal of implants in 30,000 women, per a recent LA Times news article. The “breast implant brouhaha in France” is believed to not affect plastic surgery in the United States, because it involves a type of silicone gel implant that has never been used here. This type of silicone, which contains an industrial-grade silicone, is manufactured by the French company Poly Implant Prothese, or PIP. According to the LA Times report, “Out of the 30,000 surgeries, more than 1,000 have led to ruptures. Fear over possible medical consequences of exposure to the silicone they contain — as well as a small number of cancers that are not proven to be linked to the implants — is fueling the concern there.”

And although there was concern revolved around theU.S.silicone implants that were first introduced in 1962, this type of implant has evolved in the last 40 years. In 1982, there was an initial fear that this substance was linked to cancer and autoimmune diseases, which led to their removal from the marketplace, in 1992. During that time, the only cases where silicone implants were used for augmentation, were of women undergoing reconstructive surgery after breast cancer treatment. Due to the natural look and feel of silicone, this type of implant is typically more conducive for reconstruction as compared to saline (women who received silicone implants for reconstructive surgery were studied for any possible negative outcomes).

Then in 1999, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) reported that there was no proven evidence that silicone caused cancer and autoimmune diseases. It was said that the only legit problems found to be directly associated with silicone implants were “local in nature,” such as the capsule hardening around the implants (“capsular contracture”). Thereafter, the consistency of silicone was developed as a more cohesive substance, the two types of silicone gel-filled implants available in theUnited States – the Allergan® Natrelle and the Mentor® MemoryGel – were FDA approved in November 2006.

No matter the type of implant used for breast augmentation – saline or silicone gel – there are potential complications. However, when in the hands of a qualified plastic surgeon, such as Plano and Dallas breast augmentation specialist Dr. Wilcox, your risk of developing problems is rare. Offering both silicone gel and saline implants at his plastic surgery practice, Dr. Wilcox is available for initial consultations. Please feel free to call (972) 620-1700 to schedule an appointment.

According to a recent news article by The Atlantic Journal-Constitution, “Instead of just toning up or dieting for their weddings, many brides today are opting for plastic surgery – sometimes in place of a big wedding or honeymoon.”

A wedding is held to celebrate the love between two people; however, these days, the occasion has also become a “coming out” moment for the bride. Traditionally, the focus of the ceremony seems to revolve around the bride’s appearance, which is known to make these women nervous and anxious about their grand entrance. Although close family and friends are usually the least likely people to be judgmental of a bride’s look on this special day, she still wants to look perfect for her wedding and “wow” the crowd. Plastic surgery can help to enhance a woman’s face, body, and/or breasts in order for her to not only look good, but feel good about herself. The right cosmetic procedure(s) can greatly improve a person’s self-confidence.

The media seems to refer to the growing trend of brides-to-be undergoing plastic surgery as “bridalplasty” — a term that came after the 2010 reality television show, “Bridalplasty,” showed the public that many women consider a wedding as one of the, if not the, most important day to prepare for. Due to proper healing and what the recovery period entails, those considering plastic surgery will need to consider the time it takes for the final look to become apparent and schedule their surgery ahead of time, accordingly. Unless a bride-to-be is interested in a non-surgical procedure, such as Botox® or Restylane® injections, plastic surgery is not an overnight transformation!

At the practice of Dr. Wilcox, a Plano rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and liposuction specialist, women can learn about their aesthetic options in time for their wedding. Please call (972) 620-1700 to schedule an initial consultation.

Some of the minor side effects associated with most plastic surgery procedures include swelling and bruising, as well as nausea and/or vomiting. These are normal and usually only evident in the early part of the recovery period. More serious complications, be it bleeding or infection, are rarer occurrences. Yet, even when a procedure is performed in the hands of an experienced, qualified surgeon, there is a chance that complications may develop afterwards.

As for one 28-year old woman from Dallas, Texas, her experience is being called a “plastic surgery nightmare.” As reported by Fox News Latino, she turned to Dr. Hector Oscar Molina of Irving for an arm lift and breast augmentation. According to the woman’s mother, her obese daughter just wanted to feel “pretty.” Unfortunately, after her 17 hour-operation, she ended up with open wounds and difficulty breathing. It was also reported that she woke up in pain during the implant procedure – her sister heard her screaming and ran in there only to see Dr. Molina continue operating while she was being shot up with drugs.

As reported by the Fox website, it is not the first time a patient has called 911 after undergoing plastic surgery at Molina Medical. This patient appears to be a victim to poor practice; Dr. Molina was not board certified, has only partial privileges at hospitals, and his facility is not accredited. It is not said whether the patient thoroughly researched the background of Dr. Molina, and if she visited any other doctors for consultations. Another factor that is extremely important, which was not addressed in this article: the 28-year old woman weighs 300 pounds. Her goal was about appearing more attractive, but what about becoming healthier?

Well-trained surgeons typically turn down obese patients when it comes to cosmetic surgery, because there is a health problem here that should not be ignored. Whether through diet, exercise, or even weight loss surgery, the matter of her size should be a matter to consider first. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), a surgeon should “evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors.” One may wonder, then, did Dr. Molina do this?

To learn about the various requirements for plastic surgery, please contact the office of Dr. Wilcox. He specializes in several body contouring procedures, including tummy tuck surgery, liposuction, and breast augmentation, at his Plano practice. Dr. Wilcox is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), as well as a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

In order to have a rewarding experience and achieve beautiful, natural-looking results, you must put your safety first. A qualified Dallas/Plano surgeon will understand this, and ensure that you will undergo your procedure in the proper environment and under safe conditions.

A recent usatoday.com article reported a shocking story about a woman who wanted to get a curvier body at a “cheap price.” Unfortunately, this woman fell into the trap of a fake doctor who filled her buttocks with substances that should never be injected into the human body: cement, mineral oil, and flat-tire sealant. The woman paid $700 for a series of injections, only to end up with “severe abdominal pain and infected sores on her buttocks accompanied by flu-like symptoms.” She is said to now be left with heavy medical bills, after being rushed to two different South Florida hospitals to treat these problems.

While there are many factors involved in this case that cause us to shake our head in disbelief, there is one thing we know for sure: Had the woman done her background research on the doctor and learned that the patient’s own fat is the only acceptable substance that should be injected into the buttocks, her outcome would be very different. That which does not involve a fraud posing as a medical professional

Dr. Wilcox performs butt enhancement surgery at his practice via the fat grafting method. If you are interested in undergoing butt augmentation, Dallas and Plano’s Dr. Wilcox can meet with you for a consultation. You can schedule your appointment by calling (972) 620-1700.

There are two types of plastic surgery: cosmetic and reconstructive. Cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure, strictly concerned with improving the aesthetic appearance of a person. Reconstructive surgery, on the other hand, involves enhancing a person’s normal appearance, but the primary goal is to improve function. Tummy tuck surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure, because it is intended to create a flatter and better-toned abdomen. Therefore, Plano tummy tuck patients would not be covered by insurance for their “abdominoplasty” procedure. Should you have a special case, such as a hernia that may be corrected through a tummy tuck, there is a chance that your insurance carrier may cover a portion of the procedure. Per an article on WebMD.com, in order for this to happen, your surgeon would need to write a letter to your insurance carrier, “making the case for medical necessity, if it applies to you.”

If you strongly desire a tummy tuck, but the cost of this plastic surgery procedure is of major concern, you can look into financing or other payment options. At the practice of Dr. Wilcox, a qualified Plano tummy tuck specialist, you can gather all of the details about abdominoplasty. A staff member would be happy to provide the necessary information to help you make the best, most comfortable decision.

In an earlier blog post titled “How to Pay for Plastic Surgery,” we share with you some of the options you have at Dr. Wilcox’s practice: “You may qualify for convenient and secure financing with CareCredit®, a credit card company that is specific to specialty medical procedures, such as plastic surgery. Some of the other options you may want to look into are using your general credit cards, applying for a bank loan, and learning about doctor payment plans.”

Feel free to call (972) 620-1700 with any additional questions regarding tummy tuck surgery and the costs involved with this procedure.

Still one of the most requested cosmetic surgery procedures in the country, including at Dr. Wilcox’s Plano practice, liposuction (“suction-assisted lipectomy”) has come a long way since it was first performed in the 1920s by French surgeon Charles Dujarier. Unfortunately Dr. Dujarier’s surgical attempt was not successful as it led to a major complication; gangrene set in after he treated a famous, young Parisian model, which led to her death. Due to this devastation, several decades passed before suction-assisted fat removal was performed. Although it is not the oldest plastic surgery procedure – nose surgery traces back to 2000 BC – liposuction was developed nearly a century ago, and definitely took many years to become a safe option in removing excess deposits of fat from nearly anywhere on the body.

It was in 1974 when two Italian gynecologists, Dr. Giorgio Fischer and his son, Dr. Giorgio Fischer, Jr., better crafted the liposuction procedure into an effective fat removal process. They invented a way to internally cut away fat tissue that sits within the body using an electric-powered, rotating scalpel, which was contained in a thin metal tube called a “cannula,” and inserted through small incisions. This early form of liposuction did destroy fat cells, which were suctioned through a rubber tubing by a vacuum machine; but because the doctors’ technology was not nearly as fine-tuned as it is today, the surgical outcomes back then can hardly be compared to modern results.

Soon thereafter, throughout the 1970s and ‘80s, surgeons began to create their own techniques and make the necessary adjustments to the procedure in order to help prevent such problems as blood loss, permanent numbness in the treated areas, asymmetry, and unpredictable results – complications that were associated with the early attempts of liposuction.

Today, there are several methods of liposuction to choose from, depending on your particular cosmetic goals, where and how many problem areas you have, and the surgeon’s recommendation. During your consultation with Dr. Wilcox at his Plano plastic surgery practice, you can learn which liposuction techniques he specializes in, and which one will provide you with optimal results. Please note that this procedure is not a weight loss method; rather it is designed to help further sculpt a body that is already physically in shape but has stubborn pockets of excess pockets of fat in certain areas.

Please contact the office of Dr. Wilcox regarding your interest in liposuction, by calling (972) 620-1700.
