Plastic Surgery Blog:Smoking, Yoga, and Heart Health
By admin | January 3, 2010
A recent Dallas article addressed three common health questions with valid and educational answers. Many people have questions about their health but rarely ask during doctors visits. The three questions dealt with effectively quitting smoking, whether or not yoga actually lowers weight, and if heart disease risk factors are really that serious.
Quitting smoking is a common theme at the start of the new year. The article pointed out that there were no “right” methods to quit but sticking to a choice must address the physical addiction, psychological addiction, and social addiction. Smoking is a huge factor in heart disease risk as well as high blood pressure and cholesterol. These risk factors can shorten life expectancy up to 15 years after age 50.
We need to remain aware of our bodies and what we do to them. Yoga promotes mind and body awareness and a sense of calm and serenity. This has been proven to lower weight and tone the body due to less overeating and improved focus. Yoga is also a great way to lower stress which is also a great activity for those who have quit smoking.
Dr.’s Wilcox and Dulin want patients to experience minimal downtime and a quick, easy recovery after their plastic surgery procedure. Patients who smoke typically have weaker immune system which leads to a slower recover time, increased bruising, and less visually pleasing results. Smoking is not only bad for your body but it is bad for your image. Dr.’s Wilcox and Dulin support and encourage those who are committed to a healthy 2010.
