Plastic surgery blog : The internet is a source for information but proceed with caution

By admin | January 22, 2010

woman-at-the-computerIf you are not using the internet you are part of a very small minority. Globally it is the fastest way to disseminate information. The recent earthquake in Haiti proved this. The internet and social networking sites were the only way to get information early on. A recent Dallas news article reported on the “other side” of the information super highway. The article pointed out that the information published  online is largely unverified. Unlike the information on television which must comply with federal guidelines the internet is exempt from these guidelines for the most part. This is a concern in the plastic surgery industry as many patients rely on the information on the internet to help them make their plastic surgery decisions.

Dr Wilcox and Dulin point out to every patient the importance of meeting the doctors in person for a consultation. Their informative website provides valuable information; however nothing takes the place of an in person consultation. The more unique procedures like  buttock lifts, and revision surgery are less likely to offer a vast amount of information on line.  Plastic surgery; although  it is the safest surgery to have performed, requires a balance of research and personal information in order to make the best plastic surgery decisions.
