Plastic Surgery Blog: Hoping for a New Face

By admin | January 19, 2010

hospital-patientDallas News.com recently reported on the touching story of Dalls Wiens, a 24 year old Man whose head touched a power line and burned the flesh from the crown of his head to the tip of his chin. It is a miracle that he is still alive. Wiens underwent over 20 surgeries to deal with his 4th degree burns and is now left basically faceless. He is awaiting a face transplant surgery despite the risks.

Most people are empathetic when hearing stories such as this one. Even for people who disagree with plastic surgery it is impossible to argue the validity of this mans desire for a face transplant. It is easy for people to look at Dallas Weins and see why he desires plastic surgery-he just wants to fit back into society. For procedures such as breast implants, liposutction, and nose surgery many people aren’t as empathetic. The truth of the matter is that some turmoil is visible while others is internal. Plastic surgery doesn’t solve emotional problems but it can provide an increase and self-esteem and a solution to a visual problem the patient believes they have. Dr. Wilcox and Dulin realize that not everyone will agree and it is up to the patient to determine what they really need.
