Text messages more than cell phone calls…can you see it?

By admin | December 16, 2009

drooping-eyelids1As we age it is common knowledge that our eyesight gets worse. What is surprising to many is that the upper eyelids can become so droopy as we age that it obstructs our vision. A recent Associated Press article examined the trend toward text message over cell phone calls. What that means to baby boomers is that if there is an obstruction of sight; namely heavy eyelids they could be missing more than a youthful look. They could be missing messages.

Dr Wilcox and Dulin counsel patients that while they can increase the font on their phone there are many other situations in which the patient can not “just make the print bigger”.  This only helps if the problem is eyesight. Dr Wilcox and Dulin explain that the  lose skin  on their eyelids will never tighten on its own. Some patients have spoken with the eye doctor who has offered to perform blephroplasty (eyelid lift). Dr Wilcox and Dulin explain that as board certified plastic surgeons their focus is on plastic surgery specifically unlike an eye doctor (whose focus is vision).  Blephroplasty is a fairly routine procedure but there are risk especially in untrained hands. Dr Wilcox and Dulin encourage patients to review their before and after results and draw their own conclusion. As technology moves us closer to a bombardment of written  messages it is more important than ever to be sure that your eyes are in the best health and vision unobstructed.
